Sure, Captain Hook’s hook-hand is scary. But it’s not as scary as the clubhook that hooked squid have. Let’s compare:
Captain Hook
Captain Hook has a hook for a hand because his real hand was cut off by Peter Pan and eaten by a crocodile. This hook can be used for grabbing or hooking objects and individuals, and it’s believed to be made of metal.
The Clubhook
The clubhook is an anatomical feature found on various species of hooked squid. The most well-known of which is the robust clubhook squid, which we talked about in Fact #11.
For squid, the clubhook is used for capturing prey. It is a specialized structure found at the end of the tentacles that is harder than the rest of the tentacle and shaped like a hook. When squid detect prey they quickly extend their tentacles, then grasp and secure their food with the hooked ends.
In an old-fashioned duel, I’m taking the squid over Captain Hook.
