
I know what you’re thinking. You don’t care about the clickbait title, you’d rather learn about the robust clubhook. Well, tough.
The most interesting thing about the robust clubhook squid is that it is bioluminescent.
Bioluminescence
This squid lives so far down in the ocean, it has to produce bioluminescent displays in order to communicate, blend in with its environment, attract prey, and distract predators.
It creates these displays with specialized, light-producing organs called photophores. These organs are located on various parts of the squid’s body, including its arms, tentacles, and mantle.
So, like the scary fish in Finding Nemo, but with light all over its body instead of just in front of its mouth. Some nightmare fuel in case you don’t remember:
