I hope you never find yourself in a dark alley (of the deep Eastern Pacific Ocean), face to face with a Humboldt squid.
Why? Because these squid are mean!
Ambush Predators
First of all, Humboldt squid are ambush predators. They often sneak up and surprise their prey, using sophisticated hunting tactics like encircling schools of fish before launching coordinated attacks from multiple directions.
That’s like, SEAL Team Six-level aggro.
Hooked Tentacles
Their tentacles have hooks. Sure, there are several species of squid that have hooked tentacles, but the Humboldt squid do too. Just one more reason you won’t want to go toe to tentacle with these guys.
They’re Cannibals
I’m not sure if there’s anything more aggressive than being a cannibal, and Humboldt squid are cannibalistic. When food is scarce, these squid have been known to prey upon smaller or weaker members of their own species.
They Hate You
Most squid don’t hate you, but Humboldt squid do. There have been reports of Humboldt squid attacking divers and fishermen, using their tentacles and beaks as defensive weapons.
That’s really aggro. And that’s really a fact.
